Review: British Sergeant (Napoleonic LEGO-Compatible Minifigure from Aliexpress)

Following on from my review of the British Fusilier from this brand, we can take a look next at the British Sergeant, available for as cheap as cheap as 76p on Aliexpress!

This model uses the same shako and torso piece from the standard British Fusilier, but features white epaulets, a red and white plume, Sergeant's stripes on the right arm, a red sash on the legs and a spontoon.

The Sergeant's stripes are a fantastic addition to the standard infantryman variant and are well printed onto the right arm. However, the epaulettes do obscure the stripes slightly. I think the epaulettes are represent the shoulderpads of a Sergeant - they aren't perfect at this, but do serve as an easy visual distinction from the standard Fusilier.

The spontoon is an excellent design. The spontoon was used by Sergeants to protect the colours in battle, which was of course incredibly important as losing the colours was deemed unforgiveable. The bar across the middle ensured that the pike didn't go in too far. This was not an act of mercy for those that were stabbed by the weapon, but instead ensured it didn't become lodged in a victim and could be pulled free more easily.

The pistol is an amazingly detailed upgrade on the standard LEGO flintlock pistol and I'm sure no one will complain about having one added to their collection at such a cheap price, but I'm yet to find much reference to Sergeants carrying them - a sword would have been more fitting, but I'm sure we can all find a use for this extra weapon!

The left arm doesn't feature stripes, but does have some printed ruffle to the red sleeve. Pleasingly, the legs feature sash, which helps add another level of differentiation to the Fusiliers.

All in all, I am incredibly impressed with this model, much as I was with the British Fusilier, where I went into more detail about the torso and Shako design. While you could buy a pack of pack of 50 pretty cheaply in one go, I do think that you'll probably want to such big packs for the rank and file, and just pick up a couple of individual figures of the Sergeants!
